The Myth that Dark Skin Doesn’t need Blush
How many times have you heard someone say that blush doesn't show up on dark skin.
For years, the beauty industry pushed neutral, brown, or muted tones on deep skin. But here’s the truth: dark skin looks stunning with color. Blush in shades like deep berries, oranges, rich reds, purples and even vibrant pinks can make melanin glow up in a way that bronzer alone never could. It adds a bit of freshness to the face or the overall makeup look.
The problem? Many brands don’t formulate blushes that are pigmented enough to show up on dark skin and blushes are often formulated with a white base, which will always look ashy on darker skin tones. That’s why the right formula and color intensity make all the difference.
Some of my go-to blushes for deeper skin tones are from brands such as Fenty Beauty, Danessa Myricks, Nars, Mac Cosmetics, One Size and Made by Mitchell.
Do you wear blush? If so, what’s your go-to shade? And if you don’t is it because you feel like it doesn’t work for you?
